Dr. Karen Alexander, is a proactive, experienced Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Additionally, she retired from the United States Air Force Reserves having served both as a Non-Commissioned and Commissioned Officer. She earned her undergraduate associate and bachelor degrees in nursing from the City University of New York-Queensbourgh Community College and Excelsior College, New York. She earned her doctor of philosophy (PhD) in nursing from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB), School of Biosciences; in which she was an inaugural graduate from the BSN-PhD Nursing Education program.
Currently she is Program Director and Assistant Professor for the RN-BSN program at University of Houston Clear Lake-Pearland Campus. She strives to design and develop innovative strategies that promote excellence in the student-centered active learning environment and raise the bar in nursing excellence. Prior to her education role, Alexander worked in the clinical arena as a Medical-Surgical staff nurse, Perioperative Staff Nurse, Perioperative Educator, Nursing Management and Administration.
She is the recipient of a number of awards and honors such as; the Excellence in Leadership Award-Black Leadership Network, Distinguished Alumni-UTMB Graduate School of Biosciences and Distinguished Faculty Award-San Jacinto College District. Alexander is active in research and scholarship activities. Moreover, serves her personal and professional community as a role model and mentor.
